About Us:

Champagne Goldens was established by Dana Thompson and is located in the Southeast Kentucky, and in the Eastern time zone. Dana has raised Golden Retrievers since 1998. Dana is now off to a great start with a Grand champion Pomeranian, as of 2023, as well as Goldens

My Golden Retrievers are from Grand Champion and Champion Show Bloodlines. They are smaller than most goldens because they are bred to the Golden Retriever standard. Females fully grown are between 55-65 pounds and Males fully grown are between 65-75 pounds.

Our Goals:

At Champagne Goldens, we strive to produce the healthiest high quality pure bred golden retrievers possible. This involves breeding only to the AKC golden retriever standard and only to golden retrievers that have received and passed all of their OFA Clearances which includes hips, elbows, thyroid, eyes and heart. DNA is also cleared for any health issues. Puppies are evaluated for temperament, soundness, trainability and health.

Our golden retrievers are bred for Confirmation, Agility, Obedience, Rally, Hunting, Service or Therapy dogs and Pet Companionship. Grand Champion and Champion Titles can come from AKC, UKC, International, Canadian, and Mexican Shows.

Our Puppies:

All Puppies are sold on a co-own basis only.

Pet companion puppies are sold on a limited registration, but not spayed or neutered until the age of 24-26 Months because of health concerns. This is the primary reason for the co-owner contract, because of the long wait to spay or neuter. Once there is confirmation from a veterinarian that the puppy has been spayed or neutered, the puppy will be updated as spayed or neutered with AKC Reunite.

Show prospect puppies will be on a co-own unlimited registration with breeding rights, with the option of the breeder as a mentor to buyer for showing or the breeder can show the puppy for the buyer, ONLY Proven Show Homes will be considered.

If you would like to get a puppy from us:

1. Have patience — we only have 1 to 2 litters a year. Dam and Sire are all heath tested for optimum health after 2 years old and are bred only if they pass HIPS, Elbows, Heart, Eyes, Thyroid, and DNA testing with good, normal, or clear results or better.

2. Check on this page for announcement of breeding plans.

3. Submit an questionnaire under PUPPY INQUIRY – You should enter your information by copying puppy questionnaire and pasting into an email to champagnegoldens1@gmail.com

What is the process of choosing a puppy?

The choosing process is a collaborative effort, but in the end we have the final say. We spend a lot of time with the puppies. We get to know each puppy’s personality and energy level very well. New owners are encouraged to let us know if there are certain puppies they feel they are drawn to. We welcome and take into account this feedback into our final “choosing” of puppies. The decision for puppy placement is made between around 8 weeks old for pets and 8-10 weeks for Show Prospects— after the puppies have had their temperament test, breed structure evaluation and veterinarian health check. This process seems to work out well for all.

What else can you expect?

Each puppy will have received their vaccinations against parvovirus and distemper and up to date by age of pick up, usually between 8-10 weeks of age. Each puppy goes home with our custom Puppy Packet, which includes Paid by Breeder- AKC registration, AKC Microchip, AKC Reunite Lifetime registration , 5 generation pedigree, veterinarian health certificate, photos of parents, copies of the parent’s health clearances, a sales contract, information on puppy training, deworming, vaccinations, a blanket with mother’s scent, stuffed animal, and a chew toy for the ride home and enough food for a few days. You can also expect a lifelong breeder relationship and support.

All Puppies also go home Potty trained, Crate trained, Crate trained to sleep through the night, and leash trained.
